Position: Design Director (Events/Experiential Agency)

The Design Director in an events or experiential agency is a senior creative leader responsible for the overall visual quality, aesthetic, and design integrity of all experiential output. They guide the design team, ensuring that all 2D and 3D visual elements consistently reflect the agency’s creative vision and meet client objectives, translating concepts into stunning, executable designs.

Day to day, a Design Director oversees the work of 3D Designers and Graphic Designers, provides high-level feedback, maintains brand guidelines, and is hands-on in developing key visual elements for pitches and projects. They are instrumental in shaping the visual language of the agency's experiential campaigns, pushing creative boundaries while ensuring practicality and impact.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the agency’s design team (2D and 3D), fostering a culture of design excellence and innovation.
  • Provide senior-level design direction and feedback on all visual elements of experiential campaigns, including concepts, layouts, and final artwork.
  • Ensure all designs align with client brand guidelines, creative briefs, and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the development of high-quality 3D renders, architectural plans, graphic collateral, and digital assets for events.
  • Collaborate closely with Creative Directors to evolve and refine creative concepts into executable designs.
  • Work with Production Managers to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet technical specifications.
  • Lead design presentations for clients, effectively articulating design rationale and vision.
  • Manage the design workflow, resource allocation, and project timelines within the design department.
  • Stay current with global design trends, software advancements, and visual technologies relevant to experiential marketing.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level designers, fostering their creative growth.

 

Skills & Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Exhibition Design, or a related design field.
  • Extensive experience (8-10+ years) in a senior design role, with significant time as a Design Director or Lead Designer within a leading experiential, creative, or advertising agency.
  • Exceptional portfolio showcasing a diverse range of high-quality 2D and 3D design work for events and experiential activations.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and key 3D software (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino, 3ds Max, Vectorworks).
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, materials, and experiential production techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and mentorship skills.
  • Superior visual communication, presentation, and conceptualisation abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to design excellence.
