We’re excited to welcome Jake Griffiths to WOW Recruitment as a Principal Recruitment Consultant specialising in Marketing.
With over five years’ experience recruiting marketing talent across Berlin’s tech start-up scene, London’s major media networks and Munich corporate landscape, Jake brings a global perspective to the Australian market and a deep understanding of what it takes to connect exceptional candidates with the right opportunities.
We sat down with Jake to hear more about his recruitment journey and his insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping the marketing talent landscape.
Welcome to WOW, Jake! What inspired you to join the team?
From my very first conversation with WOW, I knew I wanted to be part of the team – ask my girlfriend, it’s all I spoke about for weeks! Jamie and Emily’s passion for delivering a human-first approach to recruitment was infectious, and it really resonated with me.
Your first 18 months in recruitment were challenging. Tell us about the defining moment when things shifted for you?
I underperformed pretty heavily at the start. I was winning business and sharing great candidates, but placements just weren’t happening. After getting ‘under the bonnet’ with a previous manager, we realised I wasn’t prepping my candidates effectively. Once I became laser-focused on preparation, everything changed. I always reflect on that as the key to my success. If I put you forward for an interview, you’ll be prepped to the eyeballs!
What are the challenges facing marketing talent today?
Cutting through the noise is the biggest challenge. The market has been tough for the past two years, and more candidates are searching for roles than ever. It’s incredibly competitive, and marketing talent often struggles to get noticed by hiring managers.
What can employers do to attract top talent?
Candidate experience is everything. If your interview process is six stages long, includes a mammoth task, and leaves candidates waiting a week for feedback, you’ll lose top talent. People talk, and a poor experience can damage your brand. Keep it streamlined, keep it human.
What is unique about your approach?
Clients and candidates often comment on my transparent communication and speed of delivery. I act as the bridge between both sides, making sure everyone is aligned from CV submission to offer. Acting as that ‘middle-man’ results in a pain-free, quick process for everyone.
What’s your advice for marketers looking to make their next move?
Speak to a recruiter, honestly, even if it’s not me. Any good marketing recruiter will be speaking to 100+ companies every month, understanding who’s hiring and what they’re looking for. Instead of spending hours scrolling job boards and sending CVs into black holes, let us put your CV straight on the hiring manager’s desk.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about?
The ever-evolving tech excites me most. Looking back at how we marketed 25 years ago compared to today is mind-blowing. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
How can people get in touch with you?
